Here are a few hints and tips that can make moving residence a more enjoyable experience.
Moving Out
-
When you are packing anything into boxes take a little bit of time to label all your boxes so that you can quickly find items of importance. On the top of each label make a note of what room the items came from. You may find when you move into your new place you don't want to unpack everything straight away.
-
Don't forget to redirect your mail. This sounds simple but the sooner you think about organising mail redirection the sooner you can keep track of the mail you are getting that will need redirecting.
-
When the time comes that you do have to move address a well planned checklist can help make things smoother. The sooner you make the checklist the better. It is eay to forget sometimes obvious things if you feel under pressure. If like some people you move fairly frequently then keep your checklist and you can expand on it for next time.
Moving In
-
A little bit of organisation goes a long way. Take the time to inspect your new property prior to moving day to see if you will need time to clean or do any planned renovations. This is to save moving things somewhere only to realise you will have to move them again.
-
When you move in to your new house or unit you may not feel like unpacking everything straight away. Make sure that you keep your essential everyday untensils together and accessible. If you go into your first couple of weeks at your new place with a mind frame like you are 'camping' you might find it can be better slowly settling into your new home rather than burning yourself out trying to do everything too quickly.

This is a great time to have your family and friends chip in and lend a hand. If you are lucky enough to have someone offer to help then take it. Many hands make light work and it can also be fun and reduce the pressure on yourself if you have friends and family around during your first few weeks.
